Science Fair - Interested Participants

February 06, 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Brigden Public School is offering an opportunity to engage in inquiry-based science and technology projects for students in grades 3–8. We are seeking students demonstrating a high degree of initiative, independent work habits and a mind curious about science and technology wanting to demonstrate their solutions and ideas to questions/problems.

Working along with a partner or independently, participants will be provided time during lunch and recess to use classroom and learning commons resources to plan, investigate, test, research, collaborate, organize, examine results, draw conclusions and publish their project. This is not a classroom driven project, but is organized as an independent club, therefore limited time during classroom instructional time will be provided at school. The project is the participant's responsibility to create and complete, however a family commitment is a must during the next few months. Family commitments may include searching and purchasing supplies/equipment, providing time to work on project at home, guidance in the direction of the project, transportation of equipment/supplies to and from school and/or Lambton College for final Science Fair. ** Financial assistance is available through the school as well.

Brigden Public School's Science Fair is being offered in support and assistance to students wishing to enter the Lambton County Science Fair at Lambton College on Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th. Brigden Public School will host our own Science Fair on Thursday, March 28th and Friday, March 29th. This will provide participants the opportunity to compete locally and gain the experience/confidence prior to the Lambton College Fair. Participants are not expected to enter the Lambton College Fair in-order to enter the Brigden Public School Fair, however, I am hoping participants consider both.

We will be hosting a student & parent information meeting at Brigden Public School on Monday, February 11th from 5:30 – 6:00 to answer questions and provide additional information. I urge you to attend if your son/daughter is interested in participating. To reserve your spot at the information meeting complete the meeting form https://tinyurl.com/BPS-Science-Fair

For additional information regarding the Lambton College Science Fair, please refer to www.lambtoncountysciencefair.ca. The same rules and categories apply to the Brigden Public School Science Fair as the Lambton County Fair.

We thank you for your support and look forward to some fascinating projects.

Sincerely,

Chad Brown, Principal
