The month of June is nationally recognized as Pride Month in Canada. Lambton Kent District School Board with support of the Ontario Ministry of Education joins school boards throughout the province in supporting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community with the display of the Progress Pride Flag on flagpoles at all school and Board locations throughout the month of June.

Once again, we will be displaying the Progress Pride Flag, an inclusive design by Daniel Quasar, including black and brown stripes to represent racialized 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, The light blue, pink and white reflects the Transgender Pride Flag in the design. The display of the Progress Pride Flag is in accordance with the appropriate display of the Progress Pride Flag with the National Flag of Canada, as outlined on the LKDSB's Display of Flags Regulation.

The LKDSB is committed to supporting student achievement, well-being, and the Strategic Priority of Inclusive Diversity: Champion anti-oppressive education. The LKDSB's Strategic Priority, β€œInclusive Diversity: Champion anti-oppressive education," Safe Schools Act and the protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code further reinforce the importance of recognizing and affirming the rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, particularly the human rights of everyone to be treated equally and with dignity and respect.

In further support of this commitment, on May 17, 2023, LKDSB recognized as the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOTB) to celebrate sexual and gender diversities and draw attention to the discrimination and violence experienced by 2SLGBTQIA+ people.

The Lambton Kent District School Board is committed to providing a safe and respectful learning and work environments where students and employees are treated with respect and dignity. As per the LKDSB Code of Conduct, individuals who interact in a disrespectful, indignant manner and create unsafe learning and work environments will be declined service.

Throughout the school year, we encourage school communities to champion anti-oppressive education, and promote safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning and work environments for all students, staff, and visitors, especially with an intentional focus to members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
