The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is pleased to announce closing on the purchase of land for the location of the new consolidated Kindergarten to Grade 12 school in the Forest area has been finalized.
The new school will be located on a site directly west of the Shores Recreation Centre in Forest, located in the Municipality of Lambton Shores.
The Kindergarten to Grade 12 school will consolidate students from Aberarder Central School, Bosanquet Central School, Kinnwood Central School and North Lambton Secondary School. The facility will also include a two room Child and Family Centre and a one-room child care centre, which will provide 24 new child care spaces.
The next step in the process begins with meetings with the Forest Area of Schools Transition Committee and other community stakeholders including Kettle & Stony Point First Nation to develop plans for the school design. The final design requires Ministry of Education approval.
In accordance with Ministry processes and following appropriate approvals at the Ministry and Board levels, the LKDSB is planning for a possible groundbreaking in Spring 2023. The overall project, including design, tender and construction, is likely to be a three-year process.
In January 2018, the Ministry of Education announced a $27.4 million investment in the LKDSB to build a new Kindergarten to Grade 12 school in Forest, along with a two room Child and Family Centre and a one-room child care centre which will provide 24 new child care spaces. The new Kindergarten to Grade 12 school is expected to include state-of-the-art facilities which include program enhancements that meet the needs of students and the surrounding community.
The timeline for completion of the Kindergarten to Grade 12 school is still to be determined. Senior Administration will work with Principals and School Council Chairs to establish a Naming Committee.
