Update regarding Brooke Central Public School temporary site relocation information

November 21, 2022

Dear parents/guardians:

We want to support a positive and smooth transition of Brooke Central Public School students to the temporary alternative school sites with their classroom teachers.

Your child's classroom teacher will inform your family whether synchronous remote teacher-led learning will begin on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 or Thursday, November 24, 2022.

Effective Wednesday, November 30, 2022, students will temporarily transition to the following school locations while the structural upgrades to the roof are completed:

English Program Students:

Kindergarten to Grade 5 English Program will transition to Lambton Centennial Public School.

Students in Grades 6-8 English Program will transition to Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute.

French Immersion Program Students:

Kindergarten to Grade 6 French Immersion students will transition to East Lambton Elementary School.

Students in Grades 7-8 French Immersion will transition to Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute.

The decision for the selection of the temporary relocation was carefully considered and reviewed by the school and Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) Senior Administration. Our primary goal is to keep students with their classroom teachers as we hope to mitigate the impacts on students. We know that for some families, this may mean their children, depending on grade levels, will be at different locations.

Bussing will continue to be provided and Brooke Central students and staff will return to the school once the structural upgrades to the roof are complete, which will begin as soon as possible.

If you have not already had an opportunity, please visit Brooke Central Public School today or on Tuesday, November 22 to pick up students' personal belongings.  Please be assured that student and staff safety are a top priority for the LKDSB. The architect and structural engineer have advised the LKDSB regarding appropriate weight loads on the roof to safely continue operation of school at the site, including for students and visitors to attend the school to pick up personal belongings, until we have implemented a relocation plan during the roof renovations.

The LKDSB is working on projected timelines of the structural roof upgrades.

Community Meeting – Monday, November 21 – 6-8 p.m.

You are invited to attend a community meeting on Monday, November 21 at 6 p.m. at the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood Community Centre Complex auditorium (3310 Walnut St, Alvinston) to address parent/guardian questions and concerns. See the meeting agenda.

We understand this may cause some concerns for families and we are committed to supporting students through a positive transition. We are focused on mitigating any impacts this may have on student learning. Please note that mental health and well-being supports are available for students to assist with this temporary transition.

Additional information about the temporarily relocation of Brooke Central Public School students due to school renovations is posted on the school website.
