Brooke Central Public School Named Apple Distinguished School

November 22, 2017

Brooke Central Public School is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2017-2019 for its integration of engaging and varied Apple technology in flexible learning spaces throughout the school.

Apple Distinguished Schools are centres of innovation, leadership and educational excellence that use Apple products to inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.  They showcase innovative uses of technology in learning, teaching, and the school environment and have documented results of academic accomplishment.

"I am incredibly proud of the dedication and open learning stance of my staff and students that has led to Brooke Central Public School's recognition as an Apple Distinguished School," said Carla Wilson, Principal of Brooke Central Public School.  "Tech Tuesdays have allowed all staff to become leaders, sharing and learning from each other.   A student lead tech team has also allowed students to lead learning throughout the school.  It is through this shared leadership that improvements have been made and sustained."

The selection of Brooke Central as an Apple Distinguished School highlights their success as an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic accomplishment.

Students use iPad, apps and Apple technology as an integrated part of teaching and learning in various settings throughout the school, including: classrooms, hallways, learning commons and outdoors.  Each day, students create, view, problem solve, code and share, displaying high engagement and excitement about their learning.  Students of all abilities and needs are able to participate in learning, develop independence and demonstrate their thinking. Within this culture of learning, continued growth, engagement and success for all is immanent.

Brooke Central is a rural, dual track English and French Immersion K-8 public, elementary school with an enrolment of 265 students.  It draws students from the towns of Alvinston, Inwood, Watford and surrounding rural areas.
