Update to Brooke Central Public School student relocation plans

November 22, 2022

Dear parents/guardians,

Thank you to everyone who attended the community meeting on November 21, 2022. We want you to know that we listened to your comments and have considered your suggestions in our planning moving forward. Based on your feedback, we have decided to alter the relocation plans to the following:

English Program Students: Students in Grades 6-8 English Program will transition to the classrooms in the addition of Brooke Central Public School adjacent to Brooke Alvinston Childcare Centre.

French Immersion Program Students: Students in Grades 7-8 French Immersion will transition to the classrooms in the addition of Brooke Central Public School adjacent to Brooke Alvinston Childcare Centre.

I want to assure you that student and staff safety are our top priority. The addition, which includes classroom spaces and the child care, was built more recently than the main school building. As shared at the community meeting, as part of its due diligence, the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is in process of conducting a structural analysis of the 2006 addition and are confident there will be no concerns.

Students in Kindergarten to Grade 5 English Program will transition to Lambton Centennial Public School. Kindergarten to Grade 6 French Immersion students will transition to East Lambton Elementary School.

Open House Tours

To support the transition to the alternative locations, Brooke Central Public School Principal has arranged for tours of East Lambton Elementary School on Monday, Nov. 28 at 4-6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 4-5 p.m. for Kindergarten to Grade 6 French Immersion students.

Open house tours have also been scheduled at Lambton Centennial Public School on Thursday, Nov. 24 at 4-6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 4-5 p.m. for the Kindergarten to Grade 5 English Program students. Please refer to the information shared with your families on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

Bussing

LKDSB continues to work with CLASS Shared School Services to finalize plans for student bussing to East Lambton Elementary School and Lambton Centennial Public School. The temporary bussing routes to the alternative school locations are expected to be communicated later this week or Monday, November 28 at the latest. Bussing details will be in the CLASS parent portal when they are completed.  Should you need assistance accessing the parent portal, please contact CLASS at 519-627-6860.

Before-and-after School

LKDSB is also working with CLASS Shared School Services on the plans for before-and-after school care. We know that for your family, this is an important part of your child's school routine and we want to assure you that before-and-after school care will continue to be available to your child and transportation between Brooke before and after program and their temporary alternate school site (East Lambton Elementary School or Lambton Centennial Public School) will be provided at the start and end of the school day. More details will be shared as soon as plans are finalized.

We remain committed to continuing to share details about our plans as soon as we are able. We appreciate your understanding and support through this transition. Working together we will mitigate the impact on student learning and support student well-being.

Should you have any questions about your child, please contact the school.

Sincerely,
John Howitt
Director of Education
