Announcement from Director Costello

September 23, 2017

On behalf of the Lambton Kent District School Board's Trustees, Senior Administration and employees, I express sincere condolences for the loss of LKETFO President Ron Rivait. Ron lost his battle with cancer on Sept. 22.

Ron had a longstanding and notable career with the Lambton Kent District School Board. He joined the LKDSB as an occasional elementary teacher in 1988 and was appointed a permanent teacher in 1990.

Throughout his career, he taught students at Forest Central/ Forest Woodside; Parkview; Lambton Central Centennial; Kinnwood Central; Northern; Devine; Mooretown; and Rosedale schools.

Ron has served on the LKETFO Executive since 2001. He was appointed Vice President of LKETFO in 2004 and President in 2008. We greatly appreciate Ron's work and commitment to advocating for his membership. We will continue to work collaboratively with LKETFO during this transition.

We understand that many staff members will be impacted by this loss and we encourage anyone to contact the Employee Assistance Program should they require additional support.

In honour of Ron and in accordance with the LKDSB's Display of Flags Regulation, I have requested that exterior flags across the LKDSB be lowered to half-mast on Monday, Sept. 25.

A lifelong teacher, leader, mentor, community supporter and friend, Ron made a significant impact on the students and staff of the Lambton Kent District School Board. He will be missed.

Ron was very dedicated to his family, all of whom are a part of the LKDSB community. Our sympathies and prayers go out to his family and friends.
