Looking forward to a safe 2021-2022 school year

September 03, 2021

Dear parents/guardians and students,

We hope that you had an opportunity to rest, rejuvenate and reconnect with friends and family this summer. We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to the return of students for in-person learning, as well as those enrolled in virtual programming.

We have been busy planning for the 2021-2022 school year and encourage you to review the Reopening and Operating Our Schools plan. We remain focused on supporting students to meet their learning and achievement goals, and we are excited to return to some of the more familiar routines, such as extracurricular activities.

As you are aware, we have many health and safety protocols in place to mitigate the transmission of COVID-19 and students will have an opportunity to review these processes and procedures during the first few days of school. As a reminder, please complete and follow the directions of the Daily COVID-19 School Screening. For the first two weeks of school, all students will be required to verify completion of the self-screening assessment at the start of the school day. This may be recorded verbally or through an online confirmation sent by email; specific directions will be provided by your child's school. Throughout the school year, we continue to work closely and take direction from local and provincial Public Health and the Ministry of Education.

We know that COVID-19 has created significant challenges for many families in our communities, as well as economic, social, political and environmental concerns locally, nationally and internationally. As we transition to a new school year, we want to assure you that we remain committed to supporting safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environments for all and the strategic priority of “Inclusive Diversity: Champion anti-oppressive education." We want to support a smooth transition to school and we encourage you to contact your child's school if you have any questions or concerns about your child's mental health and well-being and to access available supports.

We appreciate your ongoing support of your child's learning needs and we will continue to work together to support a safe operation of schools. Best wishes for a wonderful start to the 2021-2022 school year.

Sincerely,
