The LKDSB is committed to raising expectations for students in order to promote positive school environments that support student success and well-being. As such, the LKDSB is closely reviewing the 2018-2019 Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) results for Grades 3 and 6, as well as the Grade 10 Ontario Student Secondary School Literacy Test to better understand and develop strategies for increasing academic outcomes.

EQAO is one of many resources used by LKDSB teachers and administrators to assess students. The LKDSB results remain relatively consistent with the previous year, although the LKDSB continues to fall behind the provincial average. Senior Administration continues discussions with school administrators to identify gaps and develop plans for improving academic achievement.

In the elementary panel, there is a strong correlation between math achievement and reading and writing skills. In alignment with the Ministry of Education's direction to focus on the fundamentals of math for Grades 1-8, the LKDSB continues to allocate resources and professional development opportunities to increase learning and competency in this area, including the addition of math coaches to support capacity building for educators.

The LKDSB is also focused on improving graduation rates to support all students through the process of attaining their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

“The Lambton Kent District School Board is committed to raising the bar for its students. We have challenged our schools to set high expectations and meet the needs of our students from Kindergarten to Grade 12," said Director John Howitt. “We believe all students can learn and we can help support them to be successful and achieve an OSSD, regardless of their postsecondary plans."

The LKDSB continues to focus on improving academic outcomes in the areas of literacy and mathematics, following the release of the 2018-2019 EQAO results on Sept. 25.
