The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of John Howitt to the position of Director of Education. He will replace Jim Costello, who has served as Director since 2010 and will be retiring effective July 31, 2019.
Howitt is currently the Superintendent of Education responsible for Elementary Staffing and Information Technology and a family of schools for the Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB). Howitt has served with the GECDSB for the past 27 years and previously held administrative and teaching roles within the school board.
"The Board is pleased to welcome John Howitt as the new Director of Education for the Lambton Kent District School Board," said Chair Jane Bryce. "Under John's leadership, the LKDSB will continue to build on its successes and further our commitment to supporting student achievement and well-being."
In accepting the appointment, Howitt said, "I am excited about the opportunity to work with the team to provide strategic direction for the LKDSB, as well as support the transition with a continued focus on putting students first. I look forward to engaging with students, staff, parents/guardians and the school communities to understand key priorities for the LKDSB moving forward."
