LKDSB celebrates 2018 recipients of Dr. Jack Parry and Stefanko Award

The Lambton Kent District School Board celebrates the athletic and academic achievements of the 2018 recipients of the Dr. Jack Parry Award and Stefanko Award.

The two awards honour male and female secondary student-athletes from the Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton areas, respectively, who are outstanding in their athletic and academic achievements, as well as participate in extra-curricular activities.

The following is a list of the four award recipients and a description of their accomplishments:

Dr. Jack Parry Award
Lauren Edwards, Ridgetown District High School – An exceptional student with a commitment to promoting the success of her peers, Lauren strives to foster a positive school community through her actions and leadership. She is a seven-sport athlete, competing in tennis; basketball; volleyball; hockey; badminton; track and field; and soccer. She has received numerous academic and athletic awards throughout her high school career, including Junior and Senior Athlete of the Year, RDHS Royal Ambassador, Academic Athlete of the Year and SAA Hall of Excellence. Lauren will be studying Criminology at Laurentian University.

Alec McGregor, John McGregor Secondary School – Alec has excelled in multiple sports and won several LKSSAA Championships in volleyball and basketball during his high school career. He also placed sixth overall at the OFSAA Championship for track and field and played as a member of Team Ontario for basketball. Alec has maintained high academic standing throughout his four years, including winning the prestigious Waterloo Math Contest. As a student-leader, he volunteered as a Panther House Leader and Muskoka Woods Leader, as well as assisted with multiple local basketball events as a coach, director and camp leader. Both on and off the court, Alec supported his peers and promoted positive events that were inclusive of all students. Alec will be furthering his basketball and academic career while attending the Rotman Commerce – University of Toronto.

Stefanko Award
Andrew Davies, Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School – Andrew is an outstanding academic, achieving top standing throughout his four years of French Immersion at NCIVS. Andrew is also a leader outside the classroom, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to high achievement as a runner, tennis and badminton player. Andrew competed as a LKSSAA Individual Champion in cross country for Grades 10-12, as well as participated as a local club competitor. Additionally, he was a LKSSAA and SWOSSAA champion in tennis, as well as a LKSSAA champion and OFSAA West Regionals qualifier for track and field. He received the Senior Athlete of the Year award for NCIVS. Andrew will be studying Integrated Business and Humanities at McMaster University, as well as competing as a member of the cross country and track and field teams.

Caroline Forbes, Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School – Caroline is described as a "quiet leader" who demonstrates focus and drive on and off the field. Caroline has impressed teachers and coaches alike by demonstrating respect for others and a committed work ethic, in addition to her proficiency for competing at a top level in multiple sports. She is a role model for her peers and gives back to her community through volunteering. She has maintained strong academic standing and competed as a top athlete in cross country and track and field. She was also the recipient of the NCIVS Grade 12 Athlete of the Year Award. Caroline will be studying Kinesiology at McMaster University and will be competing as a member of the cross country and track and field teams.

"We are proud to celebrate the outstanding student-athletes who are recipients of the Dr. Jack Parry and Stefanko Awards," said Director Jim Costello. "These four students are role models for their peers and the broader school community. We extend our best wishes as they face exciting new challenges and continue to meet their academic and athletic goals."
