Volunteering at Gregory Drive Public School
At Gregory Drive, our volunteers are the heartbeat of our school community. Whether you are volunteering your time to drive, coach, read with a student, help out in the classroom, chaperone field trips, organize special events, support the food day and nutrition program, etc., your time and energy make a profound and positive impact.
We deeply value the incredible dedication, diverse talents, and warmth that our families and community members bring to our halls every single day. It is through your support that we are able to create a vibrant, encouraging environment where our students can truly thrive.
Thank you for choosing to invest your time in our students and our school. We are incredibly grateful for your partnership, your passion, and your generosity!
Important Information:
Amendments to the Police Record Checks Reform Act have resulted in new requirements for volunteers who work in schools. Ontario Regulation 521/01 (as amended by Ontario Regulation 298/25) mandates police record checks for volunteers in schools. The current LKDSB Volunteer Policy, Regulation, and Administrative Procedure are being revised to reflect the change in legislation.
Beginning in September 2026, Gregory Drive Public School will require all prospective volunteers to submit a valid Police Record Check before participating as a volunteer at the school.
A volunteer is a person who performs a designated task that supports a student, classroom, school, or board initiative but receives no compensation for doing so. As it pertains to Gregory Drive Public School, this would include volunteer drivers, volunteer coaches, field trip chaperones, food day and nutrition program volunteers, individuals who volunteer to support classroom programming, individuals who support school events, etc.
There are two types of PRC:
Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) is a type of police record check that will be collected if an individual is not or will not be in a position of trust or authority in relation to students as defined by the Board.
Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is a type of police record check that will be collected if an individual is or will be in a position of trust or authority in relation to students as defined by the Board.
The type of Police Record Check required of a volunteer is determined by whether they are in a position of trust or authority with respect to students. If you volunteer for multiple purposes that fall under both types of Police Record Check, please obtain only a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Additional Information:
Police Record Checks are valid for five years.
Existing and valid Police Record Checks can be submitted.
The cost of a Police Record Check is the responsibility of the volunteer.
It is important to note that local police services require a letter from LKDSB for school volunteers who need a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) or a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). These letters are available at school or by using the following link: Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check, and, Vulnerable Sector Check.
