Students in Grades 7-10 are invited to register to participate in summer workshops held at secondary schools throughout the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) in July and August to support students to learn important skills for success at the secondary level.
Applied Behaviour Analysis Specialists will lead the day-long “Secondary School Survival Skills Summer Workshop for Students” held at 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Chatham Kent Secondary School; Great Lakes Secondary School; H. W. Burgess Public School; John McGregor Secondary School; Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute; Northern Collegiate Institute & Vocational School; North Lambton Secondary School. Students will have an opportunity to develop positive peer connections, learn organization and planning skills, daily routines, healthy lifestyle habits and supporting leisure and self-regulation breaks. All LKDSB students are invited to participate in these activities to help support a positive transition to school for the 2022-2023 school year. There is no cost for participation.
“We are excited to provide opportunities for students to engage with their peers and LKDSB staff during the summer months to help promote a smooth transition to school in September 2022,” said Director John Howitt. “We know that the transition from elementary to secondary school can be challenging and we hope that through adequate transition planning, developing relationships and reinforcing academic, social and emotional skills, students will be set up for academic and well-being success at the secondary level.”
The LKDSB is committed to supporting the success and well-being of all students. Through various initiatives held during the summer months and throughout the school year, the LKDSB works with families and local community agencies to ensure that students are able to meet their academic goals and feel safe, welcome and a sense of belonging in schools.
Interested LKDSB students and families are invited to contact their child’s school to learn more and register for this initiative. Although these are one-day workshops, students are able to attend more than one session as necessary and for the benefit of the student. Students may participate at any of the available locations.
