The Lambton Kent District School Board celebrates the athletic and academic achievements of the 2021 recipients of the Stefanko Award.

The award honours two secondary student-athletes from the Sarnia-Lambton area who are outstanding in their athletic and academic achievements and participate in extra-curricular activities.

Below are the award recipients and a description of their accomplishments:

Hannah Elliott, Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School – Hanna exemplifies what it means to be a student athlete. She has excelled in the classroom and in all athletic activities that she has been involved in throughout high school, including basketball, volleyball and track and field. A driven and committed athlete, Hannah has opted to train with a provincial rowing program. She has been a valued member of the peer mentorship program at the school and is a leader amongst her peers and youth alike, including supporting young athletes as a basketball camp counsellor. Hannah will be attending Washington State University on a rowing scholarship.

Core Jackson, Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute – Core understands the importance of balancing academics and athletics, having received academic honours and athlete of the year awards throughout his secondary career. A team player, Core participated in volleyball, badminton, basketball and baseball during high school. Core was able to lead by example, both in his game play, but also in motivating his teammates to work together and perform at their best. Core is studying at the University of Nebraska on a baseball scholarship.

β€œWe are proud to recognize the 2021 recipients of the Stefanko Awards," said Director John Howitt. β€œThese student-athletes are role models in their communities, as they balance the commitments of academics and athletics, while demonstrating leadership amongst their peers and in their schools. We wish them the best as they continue to pursue their athletic and academic careers."
