LKDSB celebrates 2019 recipients of Dr. Jack Parry and Stefanko Award

The Lambton Kent District School Board celebrates the athletic and academic achievements of the 2019 recipients of the Dr. Jack Parry Award and Stefanko Award.

The two awards honour male and female secondary student-athletes from the Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton areas, respectively, who are outstanding in their athletic and academic achievements, as well as participate in extra-curricular activities.

The following is a list of the four award recipients and a description of their accomplishments:

Dr. Jack Parry Award

RBaker.pngRyan Baker, John McGregor Secondary School – Ryan is an exceptional student who demonstrates hard work and dedication to his studies and athletics. He was a key contributor to his volleyball and hockey teams and competed at OFSAA with his soccer team. He was a top contender in badminton and qualified for OFSAA in tennis. In addition to his strong academic achievements, Ryan participated in multiple student leadership opportunities, including representing his peers on Student Council and the Student Athletic Association, and volunteers in the community. He was voted Academic Athlete of the Year and will represent his peers as class valedictorian. He will be continuing his education at Western University's Ivey School of Business.
MMcCarter.pngMegan McCarter, Wallaceburg District Secondary School – Megan is an outstanding student-athlete who competed in five different sports - basketball, volleyball, track and field, curling and soccer – while maintaining high academic standing. She has LKSSAA championships in basketball and soccer, SWOSSAA championships in basketball and an OFSAA gold medal in Senior Girls Basketball.  Megan was named Athlete of the Year throughout her secondary school career. She was President of the Student Athletic Association, an executive member of Student Council and the Inclusion/Equity team, as well as fundraised for many charities. Megan will be furthering her basketball and academic career at Nipissing University in the Health and Physical Education Concurrent Education Program.


Stefanko Award

DLuciani.pngDaniel Luciani, Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School – Athletics have taught Daniel discipline, leadership and the value of teamwork. As a member of the football, basketball and soccer teams, he works hard to motivate others and be competitive. He has been named Male Athlete of the Year throughout his secondary school career. Daniel believes in leading by example, demonstrating his leadership skills as a volunteer in the school and community. Daniel will be studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Guelph.

"We are proud to recognize the 2019 recipients of the Dr. Jack Parry and Stefanko Awards," said Director Jim Costello. "These student-athletes are leaders in their communities and will continue to act as role models as they move forward in their athletic and academic careers. We extend our best wishes as they face exciting new challenges ahead."
