e-Learning Ontario

E-Learning Ontario is a project of the Ministry of Education in Ontario, that provides e-Learning courses and educational resources to participating school boards.  This gives school boards new ways to teach Ontario's curriculum and help their students succeed.

While school boards retain full responsibility for the delivery of courses and resources at the local level, e-Learning Ontario provides leadership, software tools, and guiding policies.  For more information, refer to the Components of Ontario's e-Learning Strategy.

Attendance

  • The Ministry of Education requires that attendance be taken in all courses.  Due to the nature of e-Learning, the student is not present in a normal congregated class where attendance is readily visible.  The following guideline has been agreed to with the Ministry and eLearning personnel at this time.
  • A student is deemed present if they:
    • Login to the e-Learning classroom (D2L) 5 different days out of 7,
    • Actively participate in the e-Learning classroom a minimum of one time per week.  Active participation includes any activity normally associated with e-Learning.  This may include, but is not limited to, participation in a threaded discussion or handing in an assignment via the dropbox.

Netiquette

Do Don't
...keep messages short ...send messages when you are angry
...review messages before sending them out ...copy an entire message just to add a line or two of commentary
...be as polite as possible ...reply to all recipients, unless necessary
...clarify the kind of message you are sending ...type in capital letters; this is SHOUTING
...remember that non-verbal communication is not conveyed in writing (tone of voice, facial expressions, etc); a joke may not be interpreted as a joke by the recipient ...edit quoted messages to change their meaning
...include the original portion of text in your reply ...forward a personal message without the consent of the author
...ensure that your subject line reflects the content of your message ...use exotic fonts or features; they can cause havoc on the receiving end
... be careful of what you put in print ...use abbreviations or emoticons that the receiver may not understand
...give others the benefit of the doubt ...type anything in an email that you would not say in a face-to-face conversation
