LKDSB Releases 2016-2017 EQAO Results

September 21, 2017

The Lambton Kent District School Board renews its commitment to improving academic outcomes in the areas of mathematics and literacy, following the release of the 2016-2017 the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) results on Sept. 20.

The LKDSB reports consistent results in its EQAO results for Grades 3 and 6 reading, writing and mathematics, compared to last year. This demonstrates the ongoing commitment of LKDSB educators and administrators to supporting student success.

The EQAO results have remained relatively stable in the LKDSB throughout the past five years. The LKDSB results are slightly higher than the provincial average in Grade 9 applied mathematics. However, the LKDSB is slightly below the provincial average in Grades 3 and 6 reading, writing and mathematics. Similarly, the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test and Grade 9 academic mathematics results are below the provincial average.

The EQAO assessments are a reflection of the progressive learning throughout the elementary and secondary levels and they are one of several tools used by teachers and administrators to assess students. While the results inform decisions to promote student academic achievements, the LKDSB continues to focus on differentiation and supporting student success and wellbeing.

"We appreciate the ongoing commitment of our educators and administrators – not just in the grades assessed by EQAO, but at all levels – to improve academic outcomes for students in the areas of mathematics and literacy," said Director Jim Costello. "We are proud of the progress of our students and we continue to look for ways to improve our assessment preparation and the integration of technology to enhance learning opportunities."

The LKDSB believes education is a partnership between students, parents, school and the community. In order to maximize academic outcomes and achievement, the LKDSB is committed to working together to foster success for all students.
