June Themes

Charlotte, the Vermont Whale

This is an excellent online museum dedicated to a whale named Charlotte whose bones were discovered in 1849 during the building of a railway in Vermont. While investigating this site students will learn about glaciers, the history of the Champlain Basin, and the work of naturalists.

Train Race

Use this interesting site to assist in your teaching of Mean and Median. This game gives the departure times for four trains. The student uses supplied data to calculate the mean and median for the travel times of the trains. The fun sounds and graphics will make this site a winner.

Wonderful World of Weather

Take advantage of real-time data. Teach students how to observe and track weather, build and use weather instruments, identify cloud formations, and understand satellite images. This site is sponsored by the Centre for Innovation in Engineering and Science Education.

Kids Design Network

Are you looking for projects to ignite students' imaginations? KDN is a free program offered by DuPage Children's Museum. Your students will be fascinated with the chemical, nuclear, and civil engineering challenges.
