Diploma Requirements

As stated in Ontario Secondary School, Grade 9 to 12: Program and Diploma Requirements, 1999 (OSS) every student who begins secondary school during or after the 1999-2000 school year must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities as part of the requirements for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

These activities must be:

  • completed outside scheduled class time;
  • they must not be part of a credit course;
  • they must be unpaid activities;
  • they must total a minimum of forty hours; and
  • they must be completed before the Ontario Secondary School Diploma is granted.

The Lambton Kent District School Board views the community involvement requirements as one of the many positive experiences young people will have to apply their education to community life in practical ways.
