

Making the transition from elementary to secondary school can be exciting, challenging and yet at the same time a little stressful. These feelings are normal reactions to unfamiliar situations in which we are unsure of what to expect or what will be expected of us. The purpose of this guide is to help Grade 8 students feel more comfortable and confident about entering secondary school by addressing many of the questions and concerns they face when making the transition to secondary school. As stated in Ontario Secondary School, Grade 9 to 12: Program and Diploma Requirements, 1999 (OSS) every student who begins secondary school during or after the 1999-2000 school year must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities as part of the requirements for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
