LKDSB eliminating student safety patrol program as of June 30, 2017

April 05, 2017

The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) has decided to eliminate its student safety patrol program as of June 30, 2017.

Although the safety patrol program has offered elementary students great leadership opportunities in the past, LKDSB senior administration has decided to eliminate the program due to ongoing concerns about student safety and liability. This decision was made following careful consideration and we want to ensure that all affected students and families are well aware of the pending change in service.

The change will not come into effect until the 2017-2018 school year and we continue to recognize and appreciate the efforts of our young safety patrollers who provide daily support to their peers as they arrive and depart school property. As these students will complete their terms in June, we will continue to make efforts to recognize their contributions to their schools and the LKDSB’s safety patrol program.

In order to prepare for September, we encourage parents and guardians to review traffic safety procedures with your children. A helpful pedestrian safety resource is available on the Chatham-Kent Police website.

The following schools will be affected:
McNaughton Avenue Public School
King George VI Public School (Chatham)
John N. Given Public School
Gregory Drive Public School
H.W. Burgess Public School

If you have any questions, please contact your school for more information.
