How to change the way messages are deleted in your GroupWise mailbox when you delete a message from your BlackBerry.

 

There are three options:

 

Handheld: The message will be deleted from your BlackBerry only. You will need to delete the same message from your GroupWise mailbox.

Mailbox & Handheld: The message will be deleted from both your BlackBerry and your GroupWise mailbox.

Prompt: Will prompt you to choose one of the above options when you delete a message on your BlackBerry.

 

Follow these instructions:

  • From the main icon view click the wheel on the Messages icon

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • From the pop-up menu, scroll down, click Options

  • In the Message Options window, click Email Reconciliation

  • High-light the Delete On field

  • Press the space bar to cycle through the three options; Handheld, Mailbox & Handheld or Prompt

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • Click Save from the pop-up menu

  • When you have made your choose, click the Escape button twice to return to the main icon view


How to Delete all your Sent Items at once.

This only deletes the sent items on your BlackBerry. The sent items folder in your GroupWise mailbox is untouched. See How to turn OFF sent item creation to completely turn it OFF.

Follow these instructions:

  • From the main icon view click the wheel on the Messages icon

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • From the pop-up menu, scroll down, click View Folder

  • Scroll down, click Sent Items folder

  • Click Select Folder

    • On the screen below the Date and Time the heading should read Sent Items

    • The check mark to the left of each item indicates a sent item

    • Do not proceed unless each item has a check mark to the left or you may delete messages you want to keep. Instead continue clicking the Escape button to back out.

  • Scroll to the top message

  • Press and hold down the 0 (zero) key on the keyboard while using the wheel to scroll down to the bottom of the list. 0 (zero) key is to the left of the space key.

  • Release the 0 (zero) key, click the wheel, click Delete Messages

  • Click Delete

  • Click the Escape button to return to the Messages screen


How to turn OFF sent item creation.

This will turn off the creation of a sent item on your BlackBerry. But also it will not record a sent item in your GroupWise Sent Items folder. You will not be able to track this message later from your GroupWise client.

Follow these instructions:

  • From the main icon view click the wheel on the Messages icon

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • From the pop-up menu, scroll down, click Options

  • In the Message Options window, click Email Settings

  • High-light the Save Copy in Sent Folder field

  • Press the space bar to cycle through the options; Yes or No

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • Click Save from the pop-up menu

  • When you have made your choose, click the Escape button twice to return to the main icon view


How to Stop email messages from being sent to my handheld.

This will stop/start messages from being delivered to your BlackBerry.

Follow these instructions:

  • From the main icon view click the wheel on the Messages icon

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • From the pop-up menu, scroll down, click Options

  • In the Message Options window, click Email Settings

  • High-light the Send Email To Handheld field

  • Press the space bar to cycle through the options; Yes(start) or No(stop)

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • Click Save from the pop-up menu

  • When you have made your choose, click the Escape button twice to return to the main icon view


How to Stop wireless PIM synchronization.

This will stop/start personal information management (PIM) items from being synchronized between your GroupWise account and your BlackBerry. PIM items are such items as tasks, contacts, and calendar entries.

Follow these instructions:

  • From the main icon view click the wheel on one of the Address Book or Calendar or Task icon

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • From the pop-up menu, scroll down, click Options

  • High-light the Wireless Synchronization field

  • Press the space bar to cycle through the options; Yes(start) or No(stop)

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • Click Save from the pop-up menu

  • When you have made your choose, click the Escape button twice to return to the main icon view


How to Save an image to the Pictures list.

You can save .jpeg, .png, .gif and .bmp web page images in the pictures list.

Instructions to save a picture you received in an e-mail message:

  • After you have opened the message, click the wheel, click Open Attachment
  • High-light the attachment
  • Click the wheel, click Expand
  • Click Full Content, click Retrieve
    • Picture should display on the screen
  • When the image appears click the wheel, click Save
  • Click Save, click OK
  • Click the Escape button to return to the Messages screen

Instructions to save a picture from a web browser:

  • Using the wheel select the image to save
  • Click the wheel, click Save Image
  • Click Save, click OK
  • Click the Escape button to return to the Messages screen

How to View different Message Types

Your BlackBerry can receive more than just e-mail messages. It can also receive PIN, SMS, Phone and Voicemail messages. When you go to the Messages screen, the default view shows all types of messages and also the different e-mail message types such as sent items and saved messages. You can change the view to see only a select type of message. There is not an option to set a particular view as your default, although this would be a great feature. You can also use these views to quickly mass delete a select type of message (See How to Delete all your Sent Items at once.)

Follow these instructions to change Folders:

  • From the main icon view click the wheel on the Messages icon

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • From the pop-up menu, scroll down, click View Folder

  • In the Select Folders window, scroll to high-light a folder

  • Click the folder you want to see, click Select Folder

  • The name of the folder that you selected will appear near the top of the screen along with the messages in that folder

To see just your e-mail messages without sent items or other messages select the Mailbox folder in step 4 and 5 in the above instructions.


How to use the Novell GroupWise Address Book with the BlackBerry Address Book

The Novell GroupWise Address Book is not loaded on the BlackBerry. The Novell GroupWise Address Book is to large for this purpose. Instead you can use your BlackBerry to look up contacts from the GroupWise Address Book and then Add them to the BlackBerry Address Book.

The BlackBerry Address Book LOOKUP function searches only the main Novell GroupWise Address Book. The Lookup result(s) can be added to your BlackBerry address book.

To Lookup a contact in the Novell GroupWise Address Book:

  • From the main icon view click the wheel on the Address Book icon

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • From the pop-up menu, scroll up, click Lookup

  • In the Lookup window, type the name of the contact you want to find

  • Click the wheel once again to perform the search

    • After a short period of time a window will appear listing the contact(s) that match your lookup

  • Using the wheel to scoll select a contact, click the wheel to bring up the pop-up menu

  • Click one of the menu options, such as Add to add the contact to the BlackBerry Address Book

When you return to the BlackBerry Address Book you should see that your lookups are saved in the list and can be reused or deleted.

 


How to Add contacts to the BlackBerry Address Book

There are two ways to add contacts to the BlackBerry address book. One is described above, see How to use the Novell GroupWise Address Book with the BlackBerry Address Book and the other is described below.

The easiest way to add contacts to your BlackBerry Address book is when you are using the GroupWise Client:

  • Start the GroupWise client

  • Open the Novell GroupWise Address Book

  • Search for the contact you want to add to the BlackBerry Address Book

  • Depending on the version of GroupWise Client you have either;

    • Click and Drag the contact to the address book named BlackBerry

    • OR

    • Right-click the contact, click Copy To..., select the BlackBerry address book, click OK

  • After a short time the address books are synchronized

A user can have only one of their GroupWise address books assigned to their BlackBerry. This was assigned when your BlackBerry was set up and can only be changed by the BlackBerry administrator. Changed in this address book are synchoronized between GroupWise and BlackBerry.

 


How to Charge your BlackBerry Battery

There are two ways to charge the battery in your BlackBerry. One is to use the A/C Travel Charger that came with your BlackBerry. Another way is to plug the USB cable into a computer that has a USB port and the required software. See your BlackBerry Getting Started Guide on how to make the necessary connections.

Follow these steps to install the required software:

To keep the battery at full charge, recharge it for 10 to 15 minutes every day.

 


How to Update the BlackBerry Time

To update the BlackBerry time to the Network Time:

  • From the main icon view click the wheel on the Options icon

  • Scroll to and click Date/Time

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • From the pop-up menu, scroll to and click Update Time

  • Click the Escape button twice to return to the main icon view

How to Activate Your Voicemail. (Do not use your BlackBerry to this.)

Follow these instructions:

  • From a landline or another phone, dial your BlackBerry wireless phone number xxx-xxxx.
    • Do not answer the BlackBerry when it starts to ring.
  • When you hear the greeting on the landline phone press # to interrupt the greeting.
  • Enter your temporary numeric password (Rogers BlackBerry Password: 12345, Bell BlackBerry Password: individually assigned OR your old cell phone password OR last 4 digits of your phone number) .
  • Follow the instructions given by the voicemail system to set up a new password and personal greeting.

How to set up Your Voicemail Settings

This settings will allow you to use the Call Voicemail menu item from the Phone menu

Follow these instructions:

  • From the main icon view click the wheel on the Phone icon

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • From the pop-up menu, scroll down, click Options

  • In the Phone Options window, click Voicemail

  • Type in:

    • Access Number: Rogers BlackBerrys: +14162742817
                         Bell BlackBerrys: +1519Your own phone number

                               Telus BlackBerrys: +1519Your own phone number

    • Additional Numbers: Optional
      Rogers BlackBerrys:
      enter your password here (If you want to save it)
      If you do not put your password here you will have to enter it manually when prompted to enter it.
      Bell BlackBerrys: Insert 2 pauses, the pound key and then your password. To insert pauses enter the "N Key".

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • Click Save from the pop-up menu

  • Click the Escape button to return to the Phone screen


How to Access Your Voicemail

There are two ways to access your voicemail.

  1. Using your BlackBerry    [Airtime changes apply]

You need to set up your Voicemail Settings first, than follow these instructions:

  • From the main icon view click the wheel on the Phone icon

  • Click the wheel once again to bring up the pop-up menu

  • From the pop-up menu, scroll down, click Call Voicemail

  • A message will appear Calling Voicemail

  • Follow the prompts

  1. Using a landline phone    [No airtime charges]
  • Turn off your BlackBerry or do not answer it when it rings
  • Dial your 10-digit BlackBerry phone number
  • Press # to interrupt the greeting
  • Enter your password

How to Leave Yourself a Message

To leave yourself a Message from your own BlackBerry call the voicemail number below and follow the prompts (do not call your own BlackBerry phone number):

How to set the BlackBerry Password

To set the BlackBerry device Password:

  • From the main icon view scroll to and click on the Options icon [wrench]

  • IF you see Password in the list

  • THEN

    • Click Password

  • IF you did not see Password in the list

  • THEN

    • Scroll to and click Security Options

    • Scroll to and click General Settings

  • Scroll to Password:

    • Press the Space Bar till Enabled appears

  • Click the menu button to bring up the pop-up menu

  • From the pop-up menu, scroll to and click Save

  • When prompted New Password: enter your new password

  • When prompted Verify New Password: enter your new password again

  • Click the Escape button twice to return to the main icon view
