Space

1.  List all of the unusual characteristics of Pluto.  Now, apply these to Earth and describe how it would change our life on Earth.

2.  Design and construct a board game based on facts you have learned about the planets.  Include hazards and rewards along the way.

3.  It has often been said that, “there is the possibility of life on other planets”.  Think about this statement.  Do you agree with it? Explain.

4.  Should we be spending billions of dollars on space exploration?  List the pros and cons for this discussion.  Answer the question explaining the reasons for your decision.

5.  Choose a planet other than Earth and predict what you would need in order to live on that planet.

6.  Do you think man will ever be able to colonize other planets?  Justify your opinion.

7.  Write a conversation Galle might have had with his assistant when he realized his discovery was not a “star” but a “planet”.

8.  What type of laws do you think would be necessary to ensure that space exploration or colonization is used for peaceful purposes?  Write out the required laws.

9.  What would happen if, due to a meteor strike,the Earth is rotating at twice its normal speed?  Days are now 12 hours long.  Think of at least 10 changes in your life that would occur because of this.

10.  You are a cosmic visitor to Earth.  Describe one of the following activities you saw on your recent visit to Earth: a person mixing concrete, people planting a garden, or choice of your own.

11.  Consider the solar system through the eyes of an artist or poet.  Convey your point of view through your writing, speaking or art.
