Seven Wonders of the Ancient World
* A video entitled "The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World" is available for loan from the Enrichment Resource Teachers.

1. Write an advertising jingle that would encourage people to visit Khufu's Pyramid. It should be informative, with facts and a description of the pyramid. Tape record your advertisment for presentation.

2. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were ordered built by Nebuchadnezzar. Research to find out more about the gardens and why they were built. Choose an interesting, unique method of presenting your findings.

3. The Statue of Zeus at Olympia is another Wonder of the Ancient World. Using modelling clay, attempt to reproduce the statue. Locate some facts of interest about the statue to share with your peers.

4. The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus was very challenging to build because the ground at Ephesus is so marshy. Through research and a model, illustrate how the builders overcame this challenge.

5. The Great Lighthouse at Alexandria -- Write a journal entry of a sailor relating his feelings upon sailing into Alexandria after a long journey and first seeing the Lighthouse.

6. Student idea:

7. The Mausoleum at Helicarnassus contained many unique features. Script a conversation between the Queen and the chief builder as they discussed the building plans.

8. Create your own drama presentation related to any of the events which happened in the area of the Colossus at Rhodes.

9. Create a travel brochure to encourage people to visit all Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

10. Use a scale drawing to create a blueprint of The Great Pyramid of Khufu, The Great Lighthouse or The Temple of Artemis.

11. Defend the decision of the people to create a statue of Zeus instead of one of the other powerful gods of the time.

12. After becoming familiar with all of the Wonders, determine which one you think is the most outstanding. Give reasons to defend your decision.

13. Student idea:

14. Choose one of the Seven Wonders. Assume the identity of a common labourer constructing the work. Write a diary entry explaining the challenges and frustrations you face in your daily work.

15. Time and weather elements take their toll on all of these structures. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper justifying the expenses needed to maintain and preserve the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

16. Invent a new "Wonder" which might have been constructed by any of the Ancient Civilizations. Include drawings or a model and a written or oral report which defends the need for your new structure.
