November 2008

Workshop Title: The Muddy Head

Description of Program: Working from a
two-dimensional cartoon, a clay head is created using the tools and techniques
of sculpture.
Workshop Title: Smart Ideas and Power Point

Description of Program: Students will prepare a
slide show with pictures, songs, and effects using the computer.
Workshop Title: Moody Watercolours

Description of Program:
In this workshop students will learn to create
a "modd" or express a feeling through their art work. After
experimenting with techniques, looking at and discussing examples of
professional artist's work, students will work with artist-quality supplies to
produce expressive landscapes in watercolour paint.

Description of Program: This workshop focuses
on the culture and art of the Northwest Coast Indian peoples and in particular
the artwork of contemporary artist Richard Hunt and the transformation mask as a
three dimensional art form.

Description of Program: A problem solving
workshop that challenges students to use a set of specific strategies to solve
mathematical puzzles and problems, with an emphasis on the real life
applications of these skills. Students work together thereby developing
teamwork and brainstorming skills as well.

Workshop Title: Survivor Canada

Description of Program: Throughout the day,
students will use their knowledge of Canada along with facts they will learn
along the way to participate in "Survivor Canada" challenges.
Each child will need to bring a "luxury item" to discuss upon
arrival. This will be an item that they feel represents Canada's identity
to them.
Workshop Title: Learning to Draw the Easy Way

Description of Program: Learn to draw using the
"Follow the Line" method of reproducing an object. Using this
method of drawing, students will draw a picture as they view it when it is
upside down. They will also learn the basics of blending colours.

program is to provide students with an enriching and challenging environment
related to Ministry of Education Junior grades space curriculum studies.
Workshop Title: Jeopardy! Powerpoint Presentations

Description of Program: Learn about Microsoft
Powerpoint and Star Office Impress. You'll have the chance to learn how to
design and present your own Jeopardy! game on the computer and big
screen.
Workshop Title: Technology Olympiad

Description of Program: Students will work with
a partner to complete several hands-on design challenges that will test their
ability to be creative, solve problems, test theories, and make changes to
improve their plans. Points will be awarded for the best results in each
event.
